Adeline Taylor Blanchard, Deaconess and Nurse

On November 4, the Church remembers Adeline Blanchard Tyler (1805–1875), the first Episcopal deaconess, and the women who joined her in pioneering Christian nursing and social ministry. Set apart in Baltimore in 1856, Tyler and her companions dedicated their lives to caring for the sick, the impoverished, and the wounded—serving with fearless impartiality on the front lines of Civil War military hospitals. Join us in celebrating their legacy of courage, healing, and steadfast service.
